Vashti Bunyan: Just Another Diamond Day

VashtiThe latest in a steadily growing list of Things I Never Thought I'd See on iTMS: bohemian folkie Vashti Bunyan and Just Another Diamond Day (1970). I know it's been enjoying a bit of a renaissance over the last few years, but this is bananas. Anyway, what can I say other than that I love this album and its gorgeous little pastoral wandering lullabies. Bunyan's so whispery, it's like she's afraid of waking people up with her singing. It's insane. She makes Mary Hopkins' sweetness seem brutal and granular. It's the perfect record for the onslaught of winter; it sounds like burning firewood in the night air. Priceless.
