Astrud Gilberto: Windy

Do you enjoy bossa nova renditions of today's most "now" pop songs by singers who sound vaguely disinterested in their material and/or unsure of how it translates into their native language? Then Astrud Gilberto's Windy (1968) will truly appeal to your most Claudine Longet-est of sensibilities, or at the very least to anyone who finds Gilberto's more authentic bossa nova LPs to be a little too authentic. ¡Authéntico! Fresh-h-h-ly reissued as part of the monthly Verve Vault series, Windy tributes the Association with "Never My Love" and the title track, plus a lovely rendition of the Beatles' "In My Life" and an alarming, brutal and completely unnecessary vaudeville-banjo rendition of "The Bare Necessities." It's a duet. With her kid. I think. While her choice of material can't hold a candle to Longet's, I'm still a little bit completely in love with this record. (iTunes: Windy by Astrud Gilberto)
